How to Create a Net Between Two PCS

Use a crossover ethernet cable to connect two computers directly.

Creating a local network between two PCs will streamline the file sharing process, allowing all of your home computer users to enjoy the freedom that comes from having a functional LAN (local area network). Connecting the two computers requires nothing more than a simple crossover cable and a bit of time, as all of the tools needed to make the connection are built right into your operating system.

Items you will need
Crossover Ethernet cable
Step 1
Connect the two computers by plugging one end of a crossover cable into the network port at the back of the first and computer and the other end into the network port of the second.

Step 2
Open the “Start” menu on either computer and click on the “Control Panel.”

Step 3
Open the “Network and Sharing Center” and choose the option to “Connect to a Network.”

Step 4
Select the option to create a “PC to PC” network, check “Yes” for the file sharing option, and set the Workgroup name to “HOMENET.”

Step 5
Repeat the procedure on the other computer.

Step 6
Restart both machines to complete the connection. You will now be able to see the other computer by opening the “Start” menu and clicking on the “Network” tab.
